Well, the verdict is that the SBIR program can keep going until March 20, 2009. That is exciting for those of us who were wondering what was going to become of our R43/44 and R41/42 grants on Oct 1, 2008. Now we need to continue to track what the new Congress and Administration do with the different versions of the bills. Will the cap go WAY WAY up? Will Bio/Pharma be happy or frustrated? What percentage of ownership by large corporations will be allowed? What are the strengths and weaknesses of each of these major changes? Or will basically a 2 year no-change bill be the one that makes it through? How do the interest of the various SBIR agencies -NIH versus DOD match with the changes?
