NIH Grant Application Guidelines
Application Guides
The NIH has developed a website devoted entirely to electronic submission: http://era.nih.gov/ElectronicReceipt/. Through this website, you can find more information on grant mechanisms eligible for e-submissions, tools for calculating person months (instead of percent effort), and more FAQs dealing specifically with NIH guidelines. The NIH also has application guides that we strongly encourage you to read; these application guides provide information and hints specific to grant mechanisms and will help you in filling out your applications.
NIH Parent Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) Each NIH grant application must be submitted in response to a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA). If an application is investigator-initiated, the PI should use the parent FOAs listed below. You are strongly encouraged to read the opportunity announcement for any special instructions pertinent to that grant mechanism.
NIH Format Specifications
The grant application must follow the format specifications to ensure proper review. In brief, Arial or Helvetica 11 point or larger is required, margins must be at least 1/2 inch on all sides, and font color should be black. Color images may be included, but please compress image files. Pertinent NIH Announcements
Each week, new funding opportunities and announcements are posted on the NIH website. In addition, you may also sign up for an e-mail listserv from the NIH to receive these announcements electronically. Useful Weblinks
